Who are we?

CommuniCause was started as a way to bring together a passion for writing and communication with an innate desire to help organizations that work tirelessly to fulfill their missions … Communication for a Cause.   


After working for more than 30 years as a print and broadcast journalist as well as a public relations and communications professional for both nonprofit and corporate organizations, Lorie wanted a to use her skills to help organizations in whose missions she believes.


Lorie’s natural curiosity, easy demeanor and strong writing skills have led to full-time positions with newspapers and magazines in North Carolina, Florida and Virginia. In addition, she has served as a marketing consultant and assistant public relations director for the American Heart Association, North Carolina Affiliate (now the mid-Atlantic Affiliate), and as a marketing communications manager for numerous organizations.


Lorie received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Ohio University, E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, and has completed graduate-level coursework in intercultural communication and organizational business. When not writing, Lorie enjoys reading, exploring the outdoors with her determined dachshund and volunteering in the areas of animal welfare and voter education.

When working with nonprofit organizations, initial consultations are always free of charge, as are phone calls or meetings to discuss upcoming projects.

With roots in print and broadcast journalism, CommuniCause can take on special assignments—from research and interviews to the writing of articles for magazines and journals.

Drawing from extensive experience in benefits consulting for large employers, as well as benefits communications, CommuniCause can help your employees understand their benefits and become better health care consumers, as well as increase participation in costly health and wellness programs—all of which can help you reach your ROI goals.

Based on the pay-it-forward idea, CommuniCause exists to give back to nonprofit organizations as they do good in the world. Just as our nonprofit clients allow CommuniCause to fulfill their communication and marketing needs throughout the year, CommuniCause wants to help them fulfill their missions. As such, CommuniCause will donate a percentage of its annual profits to the nonprofit organizations we’ve served throughout the year.*

*Percentage of annual profits to be donated will be determined when taxes are filed for the respective calendar year. The total percentage to be donated will be divided equally between all active nonprofit clients (clients for whom projects have been completed within the respective calendar year.)
